“Today was my wife’s first and last appointment there. She was scheduled to see Katie Pruitt, and as this was her first time seeing a psychiatrist she asked me to join. She immediately felt uncomfortable because one side of the office had a rock station blaring through a speaker (Evanescence, Billy Joel, etc.) and the other side had different music playing. We both love rock and metal, but when someone is already stressed the overwhelming noise is not going to help matters. Unfortunately, things got worse from there. Her appointment was for 9. We arrived twenty minutes early in case there were more forms to fill out. At just after 9:15 Katie Pruitt finally came out to get my wife. She didn’t apologize for being a quarter of an hour late or bother offering even a vague explanation. To my surprise, less than thirty minutes later Katie has ended the session and sent my wife out the door. She dismissed the concerns my wife had without so much as letting her explain. She was one step from outright telling my wife that her primary doctor didn’t know what she was talking about. She didn’t listen to my wife’s mental health background or the things she’s doing to work on her issues. She asked a few simple questions, bumped up a prescription my wife’s primary had given her, and called it a day less than halfway into the session. $250 for half an hour that left my wife in tears and feeling completely dejected. I’m appalled by Katie Pruitt’s behavior and the lack of professionalism here. We got home, called her primary and told her why we wouldn’t be going back, and then tried calling Katie’s office to cancel the next appointment they set up. Six hours later my wife has yet to get a call back from this office.”

“I hate leaving a review of anything less than 5 stars, because I feel I genuinely benefitted from my time as a patient at Center for Care and Resiliency, but I believe I got more out of my time in talk therapy as opposed to psychiatry. I recently made the decision to find a new psychiatrist after multiple issues having necessary medications not filled on time; receiving messages from CVS advising they were unable to reach my provider or never heard back from her, having to reach out myself to request refills. There was one occasion recently where I went without a medication for several days and ended up feeling very sick because of it. I asked to be taken off the medication in order to avoid this happening again, and during the discussion was advised to cut my remaining pills in half and told, “I guess we can also prescribe a 7-day supply of the 10mg and have you cut those in half, if you want.” (I was on 20mg at the time) I’ve weaned off psychiatric medications in the past, and based on how I was weaned off this one, I do not believe I was advised correctly. After finally coming off of it, I was struggling with brain zaps (if you know, you know). I brought up my concern that I may have undiagnosed ADHD due to symptoms I’ve experienced over the years. I was asked 5 questions and put on medication due to my responses. The ADHD medication had to be changed 3 times because the first two made me feel angry all the time and weren’t helping. With those, I wasn’t weaned off of them, but was told to “just stop taking them.” I have since started seeing a new psychiatrist who, upon first meeting, said I checked all the boxes for Bipolar Disorder (I mentioned that Bipolar had been suspected to my prior psychiatrist and was told they didn’t think I had it), not ADHD, and the fact that I’ve been resistant to, and seen no improvement or worsening symptoms with multiple medications is a strong indicator of Bipolar Disorder, so ADHD has been taken off the table. My concerns are that I was misdiagnosed and my medications were mismanaged. I’m just now starting to feel somewhat like myself, but know that I’m not completely out of the weeds because I’m still dealing with the residual effects of how I was weaned off the one medication, and possibly how I was taken off two stimulants with no weaning whatsoever. I had high hopes, but have been left feeling disappointed, to say the least.”

“After my previous practice stopped offering Spravato, I scheduled an intake appointment at CCR on 8/20. During that appointment, Katie, NP—who was excellent—told me I would receive a follow-up call to schedule Spravato treatments. That call never came. After waiting more than two months, I contacted CCR on 10/22 and was informed that Spravato was no longer being offered. While disappointing, I accepted this and made arrangements elsewhere. On 11/13, I then received an email from CCR asking whether I was still interested in receiving Spravato treatment. I responded yes, while expressing confusion about the mixed messaging. I was reassured that everything was fine and told I would need another appointment for insurance purposes. Though frustrated, I agreed. I met again with Katie, NP on 11/14. She apologized extensively and assured me that someone would contact me promptly to schedule treatment. Once again, no one followed up. There were no calls, emails, or outreach of any kind. At that point, having learned from prior experience, I pursued care elsewhere. By the time CCR contacted me again on 1/6—once more asking if I was interested in Spravato—I had already received more than five treatments at another clinic. I declined. I am not seeking further explanation. However, this pattern demonstrates a profound lack of internal communication and follow-through that is especially concerning for a mental health practice treating patients with severe depression. The repeated assurances, contradictory information, and complete absence of coordination were unacceptable. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as no patient should be left in limbo while seeking time-sensitive mental health care.”

“My name is Veronica but I go by Nica. I have to give them 5 stars. The courtesy and respect I was given by not just the front staff but by my psychiatrist, Julia Moore … they really went above and beyond for me. I see them at the Christiansburg office and they were polite, on time, courteous, efficient, and very compassionate. Dr Moore made some MUCH needed changes to my meds and every step of the way she made sure I was included and with every change she’d make she’d say, “Are you OK with this?” I have never felt so seen and so heard by a psychiatrist before. She was very kind to me and didn’t make me feel as though I was a burden for needing a little extra help right now. She really seemed happy to help me. More importantly, she WANTS to help. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone. I can’t speak to the other doctors at the Christiansburg office because I don’t see them but Dr Moore? She is AMAZING!”
